Information Design

Problem-solving projects in this section focus on information design. They deal with complex problems of the semantics of meaning encoded in small multiples, diagrams, timelines, etc.  I explored methodologies of strategic communication, the development of visual systems, and information design ideation processes

Timeline:
2021–2022

Tools:
Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects

PROJECT 01 • Visualization Styles

Who are we?

Using the data collected from the class survey, develop various visualizations that display the qualitative and quantitative information of the class.

Goal.

Develop as many visual styles as I can, but do my best to avoid chart junk. Determine what the best way to show the collection of visualizations I created is.

PROJECT 02 • Small Multiples

I swear I saw it!

Mysterious lights. Sinister saucers. Alien abductions. Since 1954 more than 80,000 UFO sightings have been reported over the last century. There was a rise in the number of UFOs in the United States. Citizens looked up into the sky and saw something that didn't look like a bird or a plane. Here is an infographic that illustrates the number of UFO sightings in the United States from 1954 to 2013.

Goal.

I need to include as many layers of data as possible to enhance my visual and then translate that into small multiple views. The viewer should know the who, what, where, when, and how.

PROJECT 03 • Timeline

And the Oscar for the Best Actress Goes to...

This infographic shows the lifetime of Oscar's best actresses from 1960 to 2020. It includes 2 timelines that cover actresses' names, nomination years, nominated film genres, ages to win the award and etc.

Goal.

This timeline should show data simultaneously while also bringing attention to relationships.

PROJECT 04 • Categorizing Artifacts

My washi tape collection.

For this project, I collected 15–30 of the same artifact (Washi tapes). By grouping similar things, the audience can compare and contrast changes made to my selected objects.

Goal.

Visually demonstrate how I have categorized the subject of focus.
